Friends & Soon Family

Bestwoman & Bestman

It is finally time to make these two amazing people part of our family!!!

Chara

Chara is the most determined, open, heartwarming, giving and beautiful person on this planet. Even if this means that she will have to sacrifice what is important for her, she will do it for you. It is a given for all her friends, that she will be there whenever and wherever needed and she will listen to you for hours. She is born to be a fighter and there are no words to describe and explain what a special and wonderful person she is inside and out. After all, it is a love based on giving and receiving. As well as having and sharing.

Nikos

Nikos is an introverted, sweet and charming person with a great sense of humor. It will take some time to understand that the reason why he doesn't say much is not because he doesn't like you but because he is listening carefully. No matter how hard he tries, it is impossible for him to hide how sensitive and caring he is. He is the best travel companion inside and outside Greece and his favourite dishes are dakos and revithada.

Athens

What to do and where to stay

When in Rome ...

Where to stay

If you want to combine our wedding and your visit to Athens with some sightseeing, we would advise you to stay somewhere close to the center of Athens. This way you will not spend much time commuting or you can even walk to your desired destination. We would also advise you to stay somewhere close to a Metro station which is the fastest, most reliable and the easiest way to travel around. The neighborhoods that we would recommend are the following:
  • Pangrati: Pangrati is a busy neighborhood with many shops, great restaurants and short proximity to both Evangelismos metro station and Syntagma square which is the center of Athens. Any place around the Evangelismos station would actually be a good choice which takes us to the next option.
  • Kolonaki: Kolonaki is one of the most "high class" neighborhoods in the city center and is full of expensive stores. It is also close to the Evangelismos metro station but this neighborhood has many uphills/downhills as it is located on the foothills of Mount Lycabettus. Fun fact is that it shares borders with Exarchia which is one of the most underground and alternative neighborhoods in Athens
  • Exarchia: Exarchia, as mentioned before is the most alternative neighborhood of Athens. In Exarchia you can find street art, bookstores (some selling second hand books and publications that you cannot easily find somewhere else), great restaurants and cafes for all types of customers. We love this area but it is probably not for everyone. If you choose to stay there, just send us the link of the flat that you've found to make sure that it is on the good side of the area.
  • Koukaki: When I asked my friends (Eva) to propose neighborhoods in Athens for people visiting they all mentioned Koukaki. We don't have much to say about this neighborhood because we haven't been there much but it is very well-connected, close to the center and has many good restaurants and cafes. That last part would be true for most neighborhoods in Athens though 😜

If on the other hand, you are visiting Athens for a few days only, or you've been there before and you are not interested in going to the city center but you'd rather stay closer to the wedding venue we could recommend you one of the following areas.
  • Koropi/Spata: Koropi and Spata are the options if you want to sleep somewhere close to the venue right after the wedding and travel the day after.
  • Porto Rafti: Porto Rafti is located by the sea, is a beautiful summer destination for swimming if you live in Athens and has many nice restaurants.
  • Glyfada, Voula, Vouliagmeni: All the three are beautiful, upscale neighborhoods by the sea with many options for eating, shopping and some options for swimming too. Not far from the city center of Athens either.
  • Sounio: Sounio is a bit far but a nice summer destination. It has many options for swimming and is also of great archeological interest.

Things to do and try

Here follow some suggestions of the top of our heads that we recommend you to see while you are visiting Athens.
  • Parliament (try to catch the change of guard)
  • Panathenaic Stadium
  • Mount Lycabettus
  • Acropolis
  • Acropolis Museum
  • Herod Atticus Odeon
  • Anafiotika
  • Plaka
  • Monastiraki
  • Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center

Regarding food, we opened our google maps and listed the pins that we have saved. These are either places that we have already been to or recommended to us, and we plan to visit any time soon.
  • Colibri: Best burger ever! Eva's favourite is Chicken bbq, George's favourite is Blue burger. Disclaimer, we haven't tried the pulled chicken, pork options.
  • Django Gelato Athens: For good ice cream go there.
  • Mavro Provato of Press Café: This is a choice for affordable good dinning. It is very high on our to-do list.
  • Diporto: Super traditional tavern with 10 tables only. You may not find an available table easily but everything is 100% old times authentic down there (it is in a basement).
  • Ariston Lobotetsi: Eva can die for any type of Greek pies and this was listed as one of the best and authentic bakeries in Athens. Haven't tried it yet but is high in our list.
  • Mam: One of the oldest bakeries in Athens that only bakes 6-7 things. Eva's mother used to buy her one cheese pie from there whenever she was visiting her in her office which was just around the corner. Try what is listed as a "small cheese pie" with shortcrust for a taste of Eva's childhood 😛
  • Feyrouz_Athens: One of the most famous restaurants with Lebanese street food.
  • Ipitou the Bar: Excellent bar for cocktails. The whole street is actually recommended.
  • Dexameni: Beautifull spot to eat and have an Aperol to relax after a busy day. A hidden gem could someone say.
  • O Tsobanakos: For meat eaters only. We haven't tried it yet but is recommended for its food.
  • Barba Mitsos: This place is also for meat eaters, has a limited menu and is popular for its burger patties (common dish in Greece), its sausages and steaks.
  • Kir Aristos: One of the best restaurants if you want to try dishes from the Greek cuisine in Constantinople. If you go to this or any other politiko restaurant (politiko = from Costanitinopole) don't forget to try Kaserli and Giaourtlou dishes.

Finally, don't forget to try Freddo Espresso or Freddo Capuccino!! This are the greek and cold alternatives of the well known espresso or cappuccino that you must try if you like coffee.
Frappe is also a "traditional" greek iced coffee which was very popular until the arrival of espresso coffee.
